Description
“Kim’s Morning Routine” is a 3D game written in Unity, which I created during the “Game Development” course I took at university. We were assigned to develop a 3D platforming game in which the player maneuvers a ball through various levels, similar to the arcade classic Marble Madness. We were free to design the game in pretty much any way we like. For some reason—and trust me, I cannot recall why—I had the idea of sticking some body parts to the ball and transforming it into a chubby Kim Jong Un. Born was the satirical (but mostly very silly) game idea of steering North Korea’s supreme leader through his gigantic palace, while trying to collect as many candy bars as possible—secretly imported by evil imperialist forces, of course!
The game consists of four levels and is at its core a typical platformer with collectable items, enemies … and a few surprises along the way. Kim is accompanied by a charming announcer who comments on the gameplay and explains new mechanics in true GLaDOS fashion.
Surely, “Kim’s Morning Routine” is not a graphical masterpiece, but on the other hand, this project introduced me to game development in Unity, so the focus was shifted more towards coding the game mechanics. Most people that tested the game had fun playing it!
“Kim’s Morning Routine” was developed and tested for Windows and macOS and can be downloaded here for free. The game can be played both with mouse and keyboard as well as with gamepad. However if you ever planned a trip to the DPRK, I strongly advise against playing this game. ;)
